Geoffrey Royce Rojas , known professionally as Prince Royce, is an American recording artist, musician and record producer from The Bronx, New York. He debuted in early 2010 with the release of his eponymous studio album, which includes hit singles "Stand by Me" and "Corazon Sin Cara".
Early life , Royce was born Geoffrey Royce Rojas on May 11, 1989 and raised in The Bronx, a borough of New York City, New York.He is the second oldest out of four children born to a Dominican father, who was a taxi-cab driver and a Dominican mother who worked at a beauty salon.When he was young, he participated in choir in elementary school, competed in talent shows and, at the age of thirteen, began writing poetry which turned into songwriting.
The lead single from the album, Stand by Me is a cover of a song which was originally composed and performed by Ben E. King. The single reached number one on the Latin Tropical Airplay chart and number eight on the Top Latin Songs chart.His second single, Corazon Sin Cara, also reached number one on the Latin Tropical Airplay chart.The album received a Latin Grammy nomination for "Best Contemporary Tropical Album". Rojas recorded a song with Sergio George called "El Campo de Suenos", which is used as the theme song for Domingo de Grandes Ligas on ESPN.
Growing up, Rojas listened to various types of musical genres such as pop, techno, rap, hip-hop, rock and bachata and cites Michael Jackson, Usher, Ginuwine, Juan Luis Guerra, Aventura and Antony Santos as his major musical influences. Allmusic writer, Jason Birchmeier, called Prince Royce "one of the more promising urban bachata acts to emerge in some time."
